Top 3 Tips I Used To Fix My Registry
Has your computer been running slower? Even though you’ve cleared the spyware and adware, you’re still having trouble loading programs. It’s likely that this is the result of your registry files being corrupted or missing. Here are some tips that will help fix the problem and prevent it from happening again.
Tip #1 Backup your registry files!
Your files might be corrupted or missing, but you still need to take the time to backup the working ones before changing anything. I hate to be a worst possible scenario person, but you wouldn’t like it if you made a change, and suddenly your hard drive fried. Here are the steps to backup the registry files.
- Click on start.
- Click run.
- In the Open box, type regedit
- Click OK
- On the file menu click Export
- In the save box, you’ll see two boxes. One wants you to export all, the other wants you to export only selected branches of the registry. Click the box that you need. I personally select them all.
- Next select a location in which to save the backup .reg file. In the File name box, type a file name (you can name it anything you want) and then click Save. To keep from forgetting, I’d save it to My Documents
Tip #2 Repair, repair, repair!
Now that you’ve got your files backed up, you can start fixing the corrupted or missing files. Just so you know, when you install/uninstall software, it leaves behind registry files, or removes files that belong to other files as well. Then, when you launch a program, the computer can’t find the file it needs, and the computer locks up. Sound familiar? So, download and run a registry program, and it will scan your files, telling you which files are corrupted. If you tell it “yes”, it will fix all the errors it found, and you’re finished! You just optimized your registry files and sped up your computer.
Tip #3 Restore the registry files.
Now and again, something may go wrong and certain programs may not start after running the software. If this is the case, we will need to restore the backup you made in step #1.
To restore the registry files just find the file you backed up, remember to name it something you can recognize. Double click the file, and that’s it. You’ve restored your registry!
With the above tips I’m able to keep my computer clean and up to speed, and so can you!
